The conversation between consumers and brands has changed and understanding multicultural insights is the future of building successful total market integrated campaigns.”

A 17-year veteran of the biz, Vida Cornelious believes that doing great work means listening to as many people from as many places as you can. The EVP, Chief Creative Officer at GlobalHue, Detroit is leading a multicultural revolution, giving new perspective to brands like McDonald’s, Dell, and Kraft, and reinvigorating an American Sport Utility Vehicle named Jeep.

And now she’s coming to talk about how she does it. So listen up.

Come down and hang out with the woman who earned accolades in Time Magazine, was honored as one of Ad Age’s “40 Women to Watch in 2009”, and was honored at the Cannes International Advertising Festival. Sponsored by ADCD, Vida Cornelious will talk about building successful campaigns in a culturally influenced world.

The One Show came through Denver last Thursday and truly delivered on it’s mission to celebrate the legacy of creative advertising and to use that legacy to inspire future generations. The One Show had something for everyone: fashion shows, rocket science, sports, car racing and more. It was an inspirational night.

Notable winners include Silver Pencil winner Milk+Koblin, The Wilderness Downtown, for their client Arcade Fire and Google. The Wilderness Downtown is an interactive film that uses the address of the home where you grew up and takes you on a journey to that address. http://thewildernessdowntown.com/

@radical.media was awarded a Gold Pencil for The Johnny Cash Project for their client, American Recordings/Lost Highway. The Johnny Cash Project is a global collective art project. Working with a single image as a template, and using a custom drawing tool, you create a unique and personal portrait of Johnny. Your work will then be combined with art from participants around the world, and integrated into a collective whole: a music video for “Ain’t No Grave”, rising from a sea of one-of-a-kind portraits. http://www.thejohnnycashproject.com

Best Of Show went to the Nike Comms Team in collaboration with several other agencies including Wieden+Kennedy, for their integrated branding campaign, Write the Future.

You can view all 80,000+ past year’s winners of the One Show at www.oneclub.org. ADCD brings The One Show to Denver each year, typically in January. Mark your 2013 calendars now, you won’t want to miss it!

As founder of ADCD’s paper fashion show, he knows better than anyone what it takes to capture the hearts of fans using flesh and origami.

Jimmy and the ADCD board came up with the Paper Fashion Show in 2004 as a replacement for the annual Christmas Ornament auction/fundraiser that frankly wasn’t raising any money or awareness for the local arts community. He was inspired by a body art ball in Deep Ellum (Dallas), where artists painted live models which then were showcased in a runway competition. The designs as well as the event were just so raw, one really felt like they were part of something underground. Jimmy wanted to replicate that feeling in a way that showcased the raw talent in the Denver design community. When fellow Board Member Sherry Johnston asked if there was a way we could incorporate paper into the event, it just clicked: a paper fashion show. ADCD President George Lim mentioned that Seattle AIGA had just hosted a similar event, so he immediately got on the phone to see how feasible this was going to be.

Everyone wanted to be a part of it right from the beginning and the energy-level was through the roof. The goal became to get as many artists involved as they could find: hair & makeup, modeling talent, photographers, videographers, DJs, and of course graphic & fashion designers. Everyone wanted the show to be part of their portfolio. Even the beneficiaries of the fundraiser (DAVA) wanted to be involved, and integrated paper fashion design into their arts curriculum to later become part of the runway show. The paper companies donated cash and the paper, since they were perfectly positioned to get exposure to designers that would be working with (and printing future jobs on) their paper. Once this stage was set, the media jumped on board, with Kirk Montgomery from 9News picking up the story and airing a 4 minute piece about the show.

The first show was held at Cervantes Ballroom on November 9, 2004, and was hosted by drag-queen comedians. There were 23 total designs modeled in the show, which started fashionably late at more than an hour behind schedule. It was chaotic and the sheer size of the event made it impossible to run smoothly. But they pulled it off, and the most rewarding moment came when Jimmy was able to hand over a $1500 check to DAVA at their annual Gala. The show has come a long way since this first event, but the one thing that has remained constant is the energy created by bringing together such amazing talent from right here in our back yard.

Judging for the Student Show was held this past weekend at RMCAD. Tables were lined with student work as the four judges, Ryan Bramwell, Creative Director/SPILLT, Chris Thomas, Associate Creative Director/ripcord, Brian Suter, Art Director/Karsh\Hagan and Shanna McNear, Art Director/Integer, selected the best of the best.

“The scope of work this year was stunning, specifically in packaging and poster design categories. The range of exemplary styles kept judges on our toes and created a sense of excitement in seeing our industries next generation of artists. Great work to all entrants as it was a very difficult process to narrow down the finalists.” says judge Ryan Bramwell, Creative Director/SPILLT.

“I was very impressed with the fresh-thinking and concepts behind this year’s batch of work. It shows a level of understanding that it’s not about flashy design with no thought given to the user’s needs,” judge Chris Thomas, Associate Creative Director/ripcord, and ADCD President from 2008-2009 remarked. “The winning pieces all stood out as being very relevant and forthright. Production value was high and I give kudos to the students for giving a shit about their work.”

2009/10 ADCD Best of Show winner, Shanna McNear, Art Director/Integer, was also impressed by students this year, “It was an honor, not only to be selected as a judge for this year’s ADCD Student Show, but to also be graced by the presence of such innovating work. The forefront designs displayed such a sense of commitment to their concept, you could almost envision the brainstorming and design effort that was put into creating their final art. Big thanks to all of the entrants, I honestly couldn’t have thought of a better way to spend my Saturday!”

Brian Suter, Art Director/Karsh\Hagan, had this to say about the student work: “I was very impressed with the diversity within each category. The work was a great showcase of concept and execution. As a designer at heart, the package design category really made me smile! How could I choose the winners when each entry was just about perfect? I’m very happy these are still students, or I’d be out of the job right now.”

The winning work will be displayed at RMCAD’s Rotunda on January 26th where the students will discover who won each category, Judges Choice and who took Best Of Show. Prizes include scholarships, Adobe software training and gift cards. The winners will also be featured in ADCD’s next Annual Show Book that is handed out to dozens of local agencies.

Students are encouraged to stay after the show to attend The One Show, a visual presentation of the best national and international work, at RMCAD’s Auditorium. Students can attend this show for FREE with a student I.D.
